The residents of Harington Ward already pay the highest council tax per head in Sefton.
That adds up to a whopping £7m a year.
And they are about to be fleeced by a further five per cent rise, adding £350,000 to the borough’s ill-managed coffers.
What they must realise is that a vote for Labour is a direct attack on their own wallets and lifelong investments in both domestic and business properties.
Their aspirations are being trashed before their eyes.
Paying more, but getting nothing extra in return.
Next year they will still be faced - as mere instances - with blocked drains, flooded roads and car parks, unswept pavements and unenforced litter and dog fouling by-laws (last year there were only four prosecutions for dog fouling in the whole of Sefton) !
Among the main reasons for this uncontrolled pickpocketing by Labour are the council’s failed investments in multi-million pound projects such as Bootle New Strand, as well as housing and hospitality companies, all of which were originally designed to produce profits that never materialised.
What residents in Harington have to demand is accountability for such mismanagement.
And they need to make plain to Labour that they are not prepared to be the cash cows for merely filling an ever-deepening community chest to bail out utter failure elsewhere
