Within the current parliamentary boundary of the Sefton Central County Constituency (all within the Sefton Borough Council boundary) there are 22 different towns, villages, hamlets and specific areas (some in part), each with their own identity, history and differing qualities.
The communities are as follows: Brighton-le-Sands, Waterloo (in part), Great Crosby, Blundellsands, Little Crosby, Thornton, Homer Green, Hightown, Ince Blundell, Carr Houses, Lady Green, Little Altcar, Formby, Freshfield, Lunt, Sefton, Maghull, Kennessee Green, Lydiate, Melling, Waddicar and Aintree Village.
Your local Conservatives are starting a campaign called 'Sign up to Sefton'. Although many of these historic parishes and towns do have boundary signage, we feel it would be a good project for all 22 areas to have new signage welcoming visitors, promoting a local landmark, person or animal synonymous with the area and encouraging people to respect the specific local environment.

Welcome to Aintree Village - picture of Red Rum - please respect our village
Welcome to Lydiate - picture of Lydiate Chapel or Scotch Piper public house - please respect our parish
As well as welcoming visitors, the signs will also promote local significance and hopefully assist in encouraging locals and visitors alike to respect our various communities. They may also hopefully assist in preventing littering and the scourge of fly tipping in our rural and semi rural parishes.
In respect to the images for the signs, perhaps we could persuade pupils from local schools or locally based artists to draw and design pictures of famous local landmarks, people or animals to be duplicated onto the new signage.
Obviously the question of funding a project like this would arise, but surely the council, together with town and parish council co-operation could find sufficient funding to produce 44 signs at the north and south boundaries of all our different communities. Perhaps the annual ward funds that each ward receives could be used.
