Sefton Central Conservative Association are delighted with the news that the Liverpool City Region have submitted a bid for the Port of Liverpool to become one of 10 freeport hubs across the country. We already know Liverpool is one of the finest port cities in the world and the economic benefits a successful bid could bring to the region are enormous.
What we can't understand is the imbecilic decision of Sefton Labour Council to oppose the move by the Liverpool City Region. No council worth its salt or gritting would oppose the opportunity for our local economy to be boosted by nearly £750m, more jobs created, tariff free goods and tax relief for businesses who invest within these hubs.
The truth is that this was a shameless political statement from Sefton Labour Council. They don't want our region to prosper or succeed post brexit. They should be utterly ashamed of themselves. The excuse they came up with concerning the environmental and social impact is the most unutterable nonsense, coming from a council that continues to destroy greenbelt and agricultural land across our borough.
To play gesture politics with the economic future of your region could have disastrous consequences. The leadership of Sefton Labour Council are not fit for public office or serving the good people of Sefton.
