PROOF - as if it were needed - that the only real hands-on political group in Formby is led by the Conservatives. The first of a planned series of community improvement projects saw a working party based at the landscape feature in front of Harington Road shops.
Led by veteran ward councillor Denise Dutton and parish councillor Joe Riley (now the party candidate in Harington for the MBC elections next May), the group set about weeding, pruning and mowing the area back into good shape.
Denise and Joe were joined by Matthew Lock, new chairman of the rapidly expanding Sefton Central Young Conservatives, and Michael Coles, party stalwart and former chairman of the parish council. And joining them - because he thought it was a great idea - was community volunteer Ian Robertson.
The ‘little oasis’ island of plants and shrubs was instigated by Denise and Michael six years ago to enhance the shopping mall which is now fully back in business following lockdown.
The landscape clean-up launches an intended series of gardening initiatives to continue improving public areas within Harington.
And, once again, it shows that the true and practical champions of residents’ quality of life issues are the Conservatives, and not FRAG, the so-called independent political group, who continue to lack focus, and whose relationship with Sefton Council and its officers is now at times so toxic as to render it inoperable.
