Katie Burgess has been selected as the Conservative Party Candidate for the forthcoming St Oswald by-election on Thursday 20th June 2024.
Katie previously stood for the party in the Liverpool City Mayoral Elections in 2021, increasing the Party's vote share and on a number of occasions for local council in both Sefton and Liverpool, placing second in a number of seats. Born in the city centre, raised in Waterloo and educated in Crosby, Katie has built her business interests in Liverpool and Sefton, working across the Merseyside region, has invested in the communities of the place that she is proud to call her home and yearns to see flourish.
She said “I am proud to say that I was born under a Tory government, spent the first ten years of my life represented by a Tory MP in the Crosby seat and was raised with big and small “C” conservative values. Like me, this area was built on those values too and I’ve watched with dismay to see the decimation of our local area and public services across Merseyside, under Labour rule.
Katie is passionate about improving her local area, has a strong political background and holds several roles in the party, including as Area Chairman for Merseyside. She is the former Chair of CWO Merseyside, CYW Merseyside, Bootle Conservative Association and an Officer with City of Liverpool Conservatives. She is a seasoned campaigner and fundraiser and a member of the CCF and CPF. Katie is also a keen hobby photographer, a published artist, and as a former Executive Head Chef, she previously wrote the food columns for three publications. She is also a theatre lover, supporter of the local arts with eclectic musical tastes.
Commenting Katie said:
"I am concerned to hear of the issues facing the residents of St. Oswald ward and with turnout at the most recent local elections at just 20%, we can see how voters feel that they are resigned to their fate under Labour rule. This election offers the perfect opportunity for them to show Labour that they can't take their votes for granted any more. I'm proud to have my name on that ballot paper"
