AS we enter the final furlong for the council, mayoral and police commissioner elections, with further top-up leaflet distribution and house calls, we must convince individuals that every one of their postal and polling station votes matter.
This is no time for complacency when the history of local government elections reveals that wards can be won or lost by very small margins.
We also have to convince the electorate that local elections are about local issues.
While there is no doubt that Conservative campaigning issues in places like Formby, Blundellsands and Maghull have been excellently presented in a superb series of pamphlets, it is equally clear that Labour has absolutely nothing to offer on current local issues of concern.
The same is true of minority party candidates.
It must be driven home - even to ‘nodding dog’ socialists - that Labour’s financial mismanagement and preferential spending on loss-making pet projects (eg. Bootle New Strand, Crosby Marina catering, and an ill-fated housing association) are actually detrimental to the daily lives and life-long personal investment of the vast majority of council tax payers in Sefton Central.
Only the Conservatives can meaningfully challenge and expose such negligence.
With only days to go, voters must be made aware that politics begins at home. And that each of them is a valued individual in bringing about the change that is long overdue.
Good luck to all our candidates and a huge thank you for the legion of support they have received from party members and volunteers. May hard work and common sense prevail!
