If, during the coming weeks, and living in Formby or Crosby, you encounter a Labour councillor or candidate out to secure your vote, beware.
They are what the French like to call “faux amis” or false friends.
While these socialist propagandists claim to be fellow-travellers, respectful of residents’ lifetime property and business investments, and brandishing their latest slogan “|On Your Side”, they are distinctly off-side.
For even though the people of Formby and Crosby contribute the lion’s share of Sefton’s budget, via their council tax, Labour spends most of its income elsewhere in the borough, including £70m (so far) on the pipedream of turning Bootle New Strand into a socio-economic haven. The people of Formby and Crosby are treated with contempt, as the mugs caught in the middle.
If proof were needed, simply ask these Labour councillors and candidates what Sefton Council has actually done to truly enhance these central wards.
It will make for a very short conversation.
Cold comfort. And like the characters in that classic British novel Cold Comfort Farm, you will be left with the feeling of “something nasty in the woodshed.”
That comes from the knowledge that although there are 51 Labour councillors out of a total of 66 in 22 wards, all the major decisions are made by a cabinet clique of just nine council members.
In the name of true democracy that is totally unacceptable.
These people have become virtually unaccountable to the electorate, which is nothing short of a disgrace.
