Sefton Council have very recently produced their Transportation Capital Programme for 2020/2021 which refers again to the Crosby Village access and accessibility improvements.
The report proposes to carry forward £40k from 2019/20 to complete the development of the Crosby Village access and accessibility improvements but the public, the shopkeepers and other interested stakeholders have not been consulted or informed about the proposed improvements. The local community has not been invited to offer their own suggestions about accessibility improvements within the Village. The local Ward Councillors are also unaware of what is being proposed.
Again this Council has ignored views of the local community but has committed to spending £80,000 of ratepayers money for consultants to carry out a project which has not been made public.
Chairman of Sefton Central Conservatives Martyn Barber said: As Conservatives we agree that a fundamental review should be carried out into parking, access and accessibility in Crosby Village. This is especially important in view of the new private developments being proposed, which will need careful planning for vehicular and pedestrian access to the retail and residential properties.
Areas for consideration should include:
- Improved surfaces, drainage, lighting and one-way system in the car parks,
- Number plate recognition for automated car parking charges,
- Electric vehicle charging points,
- Additional secure bike parking,
- Improved location for commercial refuse collection bins,
- More attractive landscaping and tree planting, especially at car park perimeter
- Separate access for commercial vehicle deliveries, especially to Sainsburys and Central Buildings,
- Coordinated bus stops within easy reach of pedestrian areas,
- Designated taxi rank,
- Wider pavement and dropped kerbs near Sainsbury's cash machine,
- Better signage
- Levelling of block paving in Moor Lane to prevent flooding
- Creation of a centrallised, landscaped seating area.
