BLUNDELLSANDS AND CROSBY SUBWAY
Residents, who have been complaining for years about the deplorable state of this subway, now have a reason to be cheerful. Not only have the walls been cleaned and painted but the overhanging trees and shrubbery have been cut back.
A local artist has also been commissioned to paint a mural along the walls using funding from Heritage Lottery funding. Apparently the art work will feature families journeying to the beach to enjoy our famous landscape and of course our Iron Men. One can see evidence of a pencil outline on the walls and no doubt this will be a blaze of colour when the art work is completed.
National lottery funding can be applied fort o assist with funding projects that connect people and communities to the national, regional and local heritage of the United Kingdom. Local artists, sports groups and charities are very familiar with the bidding process associated with schemes such as this and someone has obviously provided a successful bid .At last our locality has been recognised.
Now all that need to be done is to sort out the drainage. The blocked drains are always overflowing and are particularly bad when there is a high tide and bad weather. Apparently United Utilities have stated the drains are not their responsibility, and so….it is over to our Labour Council to investigate and solve this age old problem. It is not a pleasant task pushing a buggy or wheelchair through the damp slime as you try to negotiate the pathway.
There is also a rumour that some much needed additional lighting could be installed too! The station steps could do with a clean and the edges need to be repainted to distinguish the step edge.
The stairwells are looking particularly dirty particularly now the subway has been renovated. A job for Mersey rail to ponder!
